Roland is a debut album by Ensemble DRE, outstanding contemporary group featuring guitar, violin, double bass and percussion.
The album is a tribute to the great classical guitarist and composer Roland Dyens (1955-2016). Dyens’ influential and widely performed music bridges many different styles, from classical music to jazz, Brazilian music and French Chanson. For this album Ensemble DRE expanded on many of Dyens’ favourite solo guitar works by adding rich harmonies, textures and dazzling solos.
The arrangements use improvisation as basis, just as Dyens did when he composed the original music, and range from soft to extremely loud, from minimalistic to full orchestral sound, all in a matter of seconds.
Recorded in Halen, Belgium. Produced by Uros Baric.
